Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day

The PoWER Lab hosts the annual Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day Event! Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disability a child can have, but awareness regarding this disability remains low. Our goal is to bring awareness to the disorder and create a community for individuals with cerebral palsy. This event is sponsored by Boys Town National Research Hospital, Special Olympics of Nebraska, and United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska. To become a sponsor email: eibhlis.moriarty@boystown.org

Children and families can participate in barrier free and inclusive games, food, and fun! This annual event is a chance for the Omaha community to come together for fun, but also create more awareness and support for those with cerebral palsy.

It brings more awareness to research that needs to be done through NIH. It’s one of the least funded areas actually even though it’s the most common motor disability that a child could have.

Mustaches for Kids- Down Syndrome Alliance Fundraiser

Mustaches for Kids Omaha is the local chapter of Mustaches for Kids America, a volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing Mustaches for children's charities. The concept is pretty simple, you get pledges/donations to grow a mustache for one month. All the money raised during this fundraiser is donated to local children's charities.

“I am growing this sweet mustache to help raise money for the Down Syndrome Alliance to create new community programs that will help children with Down syndrome modify their behavior and improve their overall mental health.  I have an awesome nephew and numerous friends that could really benefit from these programs, and is reason I am a first time stache grower for 2023. This month has been spectacular with all your support, including your donations for me to ride my first ever mechanical-bull (Ouch!).

Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign. Together we raised $5,921!!  In addition the donation amount ends in '21', perfect! You have helped an amazing program that is providing important services and outreach for the Down syndrome community!”
